Turks Head Trail
TRAIL PLAN
The Turks Head Trail will be 5.0 miles long. When complete, it will connect 5 municipalities in two counties.
The THT will start in West Chester Borough, traverse West Goshen, Westtown and Thornbury Townships of Chester Country,
and end in Thornbury Township of Delaware County.
This trail will link multiple parks, an elementary school, a high school and two universities.
It will provide both recreation and alternative transportation in an area heavily dependent on cars.
West Chester
The north end of the Turks Head Trail (THT) will be in West Chester Borough near the West Chester Railroad station. West Chester's vibrant downtown area, with its many restaurants, bars, boutiques, and cultural venues, makes it a great place to live, work, or visit. It's also a college town - home of West Chester University and over 17,000 students.
West Goshen
The trail will extend through the suburb of West Goshen Twp for ca. 1 mile.
Westtown
The middle of the THT and longest section at 1.75 miles will be in Westtown Twp. The trail will pass near Wedgewood Swim Club, Oakbourne Park, Bayard Rustin High School and Westtown-Thornbury Elementary School.
thornbury (chesco)
Proceeding further east, the next section of the THT will be in Thornbury Twp of Chester County. This 1.26 mile section will pass Goose Creek Park, The Salty Cow ice cream shop, Thornbury Soccer Park, and a Christmas tree farm. The northern edge of the trail will be adjacent land owned by the Lenni Lenape Indians.
Thornbury (Delco)
The south end of the THT will be in Thornbury Twp of Delaware County, near Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. Did you know that this is our nation's first Historically Black College and the alma mater of 60 Minutes news anchor Ed Bradley?
The THT will end near the trailhead for the Luckenbach trail. This 1.5-mile, unpaved hiking trail extends along the East Branch of Chester Creek and ends at Bonner Park.
